On Sunday 02 October, 20 members of the WWHS set out to the Otaki area to visit three gardens. We left a bleak, wet day in Wellington but by the time we got to Harrison’s Garden Centre in Waikanae for coffee and a tour of the nursery (and, of course, some shopping!), the weather had improved greatly.
After leaving Harrisons, we visited our first garden in Old Hautere Road and then back to SH1 for a delicious lunch at The Winemaker’s Daughter. Following this we were shown around two further gardens in Otaki Gorge Road, with individual “snack packs” served at the last garden.
A very relaxing day visiting three stunning gardens – many thanks to the gardens’ owners for sharing their gardens with us.

June 2015 Meeting: At the June meeting we heard about the children’s holiday programmes developed by Ali Whiten and Karl Nolan, two enthusiastic staff members at the Wellington Botanic Garden. Emphasising how they always need to start from the children’s current interests, they also described current planning for the new Children’s Garden.
