On Monday 2 March Cindy Telford showed a small group of members around the nurseries at the Wellington Botanic Garden. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the new buildings also play host to several organisms that control various pests, so that staff no longer use sprays. We saw a great display of the begonias that hadn’t made it to the Begonia House, plus a wide range of other plants, from dormant bulbs to giant cacti. The old potting shed is now Peter’s Potting shed, in honour of Peter Tijsen, known to us as our camellia judge, who retired from his work at the Botanic Garden at the end of February.
